Virgin Bound

With the 2008 edition of Virgin Festival on the Toronto Islands just about ten days away, it seems that all the final acts have just been added. If you take a look at my previous post , where I tried to predict some of the key bands I thought would have gave V-fest more sparkle were the likes of The Verve, Regina Spektor, Tegan and Sara and Katy Perry. Well…none of them were added. Actually no one “mid-card” were added. So Virgin Festival 08 maybe just a tad short on star power, BUT what we got instead were a bunch of new and upcoming bands that I actually did some research on, and I found that most were pretty decent.

* So what bands am I speaking of? First off, added to Saturday (day 1) are The Waking Eyes, Bad Flirt, Lights, Flash Lightin, Saint Alvia Cartel and We are the Take.

So on the first day in the newly branded “Oh Henrys” stage, we have some pretty good new blood. I’ve been listening to Saint Alvia Cartel for a bit and I like them. Lights who made that Old Navy commercial song during the early summer, and the Waking Eyes are just rockin’.

* On day 2, we are getting: The Secret Broadcast, Shad, Rock Plaza Central, Arkells, OPOPO and Winter Gloves.

These second day additions are also very good. My man Shad, who I’ve seen twice at my university’s campus is just fantastic. OPOPO is a band I am really exicted to see because of their electro-rockness.

V-fest states that the the final line-up set times will be released soon. But while we wait, keep hoping that some more key bands will be added!

Terrifyingly Beautiful.

I finally got to see Radiohead live last night at the Molson Amphitheater. I am still in awe, and my limbs are as sore as ever. But it was worth it…

After the fresh opening act delivered by Grizzly Bear, the crowd turned around and looked up into the sky, and what did we see? Not just one, but two rainbows formed perfectly right over the Molson Amphitheater, we were really “in rainbows”. Was this the work of some divine intervention? No one knows, but what it signaled was the arrival of the divine craft of Radiohead.

Thom Yorke, Colin and Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Phil Selway lead the way with the opening song from their album “In Rainbows”, “15 Step”. From what Radiohead fans wanted to hear, there were no surprises. Every beat, guitar riff, electro-whatever you call it was dead on and better live than on record. Concert-goers were delighted with treats such as “Talk Show Host”, “Wolf at the Door”. Radiohead managed to play a wealth of tracks from most of their albums to create a very diverse set-list. All-time favorites like “There There”, “Planet Telex”, “No Surprises”, “Street Spirit” and “Airbag”.

The show however was for the die-hard fans, as a few of their great singles were not played like “Paranoid Android” or “Karma Police”. But to say this factor was a low-point of the show would be just completely wrong. Everyone from the front of the pit to the folks all the way at the back of the lawn (even soaked in rain) had a phenomenal time last night. And that lighting show with the “falling rain” LEDs, what a spectacle on its own eh?

Virgin Festival 2008: Confirmed

My credentials just came through for the 2008 Virgin Festival here on the beautiful Toronto Islands. We got a reviewer and two photographers prepared to hit the battle fields on September 6 and 7. V-fest is all about giving many upcoming indy bands the chance to rock it out along side with some of the biggest international acts in the world.

In The Pit

After a good ole show, when ruffling through the few gigabites of photos I took, I like to analyze the “crowd” shots and look at the audiences expressions. I have included just 3 of my fave “crowd” photos in this post. The first one is from Toronto V-fest 2007, the 2nd is from a Sloan concert @ the Kool Haus, and the 3rd is from the CMW Indie Awards @ the Sound Academy (formerly The Docks).

TNA No Surrender PPV

Hey ya’ll

I just got my tickets to TNA Wrestling’s first PPV outside of the USA. No Surrender will take place at the GM Center in Oshawa near by my university!!! How awesome is that??? I am stoked!

I will finally be able to get chance to meet some of my all time favorite wrestlers like “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage, Kurt Angle, Sting and all the upcoming stars like LAX, Kaz, Black Mashismo and Sharkboy LOL.

Anyways, it goes down on Sunday Sept 14.08.
